The goal of the Green Fair is to raise awareness of the sustainable choices available in South Carolina and demonstrate a waste free, environmentally responsible large event.

Volunteer Positions for September 25 at Marion Square Park, Charleston

Logistical Volunteer:

The role of the logistical volunteer is to assist with the set up and break down of the Green Fair. Duties will include placement of tents, tables, chairs and resource recovery stations. Volunteers will also assist with placement of signage and other logistical details. These volunteers will roam the event and check in with exhibitors, as well as man the hospitality tent.

Information/Ticket Booth Volunteer:

The role of the information volunteer is to staff the Green Fair information/ticket booths, which will be the central location for attendees to gather information on the festival. Responsibilities will include passing out Green Fair programs to attendees, selling tickets, ID bracelets, manning the lost and found station and handling all attendee questions/concerns.

KidZone/Eco-Carnival:

Assist with carnival games, hand out prizes and other KidZone activities.

Beverage Tent Staff (Must be 21 years of age):

Serve beer, wine and pre-mixed specialty drinks, along with non-alcoholic beverages. You will be able to earn “tips”.

Green Team:

Resource Recovery Station Managers:

The role of the station manager is one of the single most important roles on the Green Team. Station managers serve a dual purpose; they serve as quality control managers for the initial sort established by the recovery station, and they also serve as educators to the multitude of attendees who have not yet been exposed to some of the products and sorting concepts used in our landfill diversion programs.

Training: Station Managers will be trained how to identify biodegradable products, recyclable items, compostable

materials, and those items that must be landfilled so they can direct festival attendees on proper disposal techniques.

Resource Collections Teams:

Volunteers working on collection teams will be working closely with station managers and sorting teams. Collection teams will be required to monitor resource recovery stations by coordinating with station managers and removing full bags of waste. Collection teams will need to be familiar with festival floor plans and locations of all resource recovery stations in order to expedite the waste removal process.

Green Team Sorting Crew:

Sorters will manage compost quality control, eliminate contamination in recycling streams and remove landfill waste from compost and landfill streams.

Training: Sorters will be trained to identify items within specific waste steams as to whether or not those items are recyclable, biodegradable, or neither.

Volunteers will receive free admission for the day ~ Snacks and beverages ~ A Souvenir 2011 Columbia Green Fair Volunteer T-Shirt
